DiamondH, the short answer is that everybody and their brother is playing the bandwidth game. The trick I think will be to get out when it's 'solved'. Right now it's scarce, mostly because of government monopolies and out of date technologies. But Gilder will be right *someday* and it will be cheaper than my jokes. The number of candidates is too long to list, and you would get arguments on each and every one from somebody. The satellite companies are in it, the fiber companies are in it, the DWDM guys are in it, the 'last mile' guys are in it, there's even some crazy company in San Diego that's fooling around with it. Check out the Last Mile thread here on SI--very heavy duty boys over there. Unless you're an EE, you'll be lucky to pick up on 1/2 of what they're saying but you'll sure get an idea of who the players are. The Winstar thread has some excellent posters (naturally WCII freaks, but they discuss others in the fixed wireless sector). And of course you should pick up on the Qwest, Level 3 and LU threads. You'll soon have a headache, too many stocks, and too few dollars. If you do run into any technical problems, just send them to me and I'll fix you right up. No worries. Mike Doyle |
