AFTER THE BELL - Compaq higher

NEW YORK, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Shares of Compaq Computer Corp. rose in the post-session Thursday as buying interest spilled over from the regular session.

Compaq Computer (CPQ - news) traded as high as 36 on the Instinet electronic system in late trading before dipping to 34-3/4. The stock had closed at 33-15/16 on the New York Stock Exchange where it topped the active list. The stock had closed at 31-15/16 on Wednesday.

Late in the day, Goldman, Sachs said Compaq, already on its recommended list, has been added to its priority list.

The New York Stock Exchange said volume in after-hours session one was 1,506,200 shares Thursday versus 1,703,600 on Wednesday. Session two volume was 7,201,777 shares versus 7,524,563 on Wednesday.
