Mazarin Builds its First Calcium Aluminate Plant

QUEBEC, QUEBEC--Mazarin Mining Corporation Inc. ("Mazarin") is
proud to announce that its first calcium aluminate plant will be
located at Thetford Mines. The construction of the plant began
today and will be completed in June 1997. The project will
require an investment of $6.5 million in fixed assets. The plant
will create 25 new jobs and will have an initial output capacity
of 30,000 tons.

Mazarin acquired last September the patent to produce calcium
aluminate by mixing calcium carbonate with byproducts created from
dross processing in aluminum plants. It then signed a long-term
agreement with Alcan Aluminium Limited's Guillaume-Tremblay dross
processing plant to supply Mazarin with the byproducts.

Calcium aluminate is used primarily by the steel industry as a
dross enhancer in molten steel. This chemical compound therefore
allows for improved refining of steel as its final stage.
Developed over the last three years, this process has already
produced 5,000 tons of calcium aluminate of excellent quality and
at a very competitive cost. All the steel mills that tested this
product were very impressed by its efficiency.

The Corporation appreciates the great contribution of the City of
Thetford Mines to the project and would also like to thank Mayor
Henri Therrien and his staff for their assistance.

The realization of this first calcium aluminate plant serves as
another concrete example of the corporate diversification
strategy. Mazarin, with its strong financial position, intends to
continue analyzing projects that support its commitment to growth,
in line with the Corporation's mission.
