You're a lawyer. Regarding this from Fox News:

Grand jury meets to consider evidence against Tripp

8.28 p.m. ET (029 GMT) August 6, 1998
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A grand jury on Thursday began considering whether charges should be filed against Linda Tripp for secretly taping conversations with Monica Lewinsky, a court clerk said.

Montanarelli is investigating whether Tripp broke state law when she taped Lewinsky, a former White House intern who says she had an affair with President Clinton. The tapes fueled Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation of the president.

If Tripp is found guilty of illegal wiretapping (and I doubt it because the phone calls were allegedly interstate and thus subject to Federal law), does that invalidate Lewinsky's testimony or negate the contents of the tape as evidence?

In other words, what do Montanarelli and Clinton gain if Tripp is found to have violated wiretap laws? Seems to me that the wiretap issue is academic now that Lewinsky is a witness for the prosecution.
