Let's see, I believe that there are three major market segments. The first is consumer, the second is work stations, and the third is servers. Or to put this another way, the market segments are consumer and enterprise.
Compaq had established itself mainly in the consumer market, then started to branch out to the enterprise markets. With DEC, they have made major inroads into the enterprise markets. (DEC had long since exited the consumer segment.) So, having said this, how does CPQ and DELL differ? Dell is moving into the enterprise markets as we discuss this topic.
