Fortinwit,

Thanks for the reminder of the cautions. Most of the recent newfound bullishness has been on semi companies rather than semi equips -- upgrades or bullish initial coverage by Lehman and CS First Boston announced today. Some reports suggesting a bottom around the end of the year have triggered some buying interest. The semi equips seem to be jumping in anticipation that there WILL be an upturn and more money to be made among these companies than from Internet companies or even the large main tech favorites.

You may be right that this is a false start, but the climate has been very negative, with most of the companies much nearer bottoms than tops both in terms of price and time. It may be the quibble on how much blood we need to call it enough. Typically, the bottom occurs with things looking pretty grim -- like now. And if we get major momentum buying supporting the bottom-fishing, there may be major appreciation, accelerated by large numbers of investors not wanting to miss the train.
