Without agreeing or disagreeing with Merrill's analysis, I would note that the semiconductor capital equipment group has been flying over the last few days. These companies have been hit hardest by the Asian crisis and are therefore the most sensitive to a turnaround. It will be interesting to see whether the market's collective "wisdom" with regard to this group is prescient or excessively optimistic.
