Most of the small farmers that I have met in the past five years receive very little in subsidies. My father-in-law called me one day and said that he finally received one ... for $18.00.

Seriously, I think that the real issue in the future will be the lack of capacity. I see a great deal of acreage being taken out of production and I see a lot of larger family farms (240+ acres) split up into small unprofitable non-farming plots. If we need to ever increase our production, it will be difficult to get enough acreage to work.

Another concern that I have is the concentration of so much of the agricultural capacity in regions (Florida and California) which are experiencing water shortages.
