Jim makes a good point about internal inventories, although I'm not sure this is a credibility issue for CPQ management, since the discussion about channel stuffing (which they were addressing) did not extend to internal inventory. But it is an important discussion in looking at the two business models (CPQ and Dell) since each has advantages and disadvantages and the impact on cash management is pretty significant. This is also the hidden cost of the volume purchase discussion. Looking at the numbers I think that their internal inventory position has not changed much in a long time, either up or down. Maybe their supply chain management will improve since they switched from Man-Man to SAP over the last year.
