Eidos announces new Tomb Raider game for DreamCast and N64.
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 6, 1998--Fans of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider games will have an opportunity to see the Tomb Raider III technology on new platforms by the end of the year. Tomb Raider III will only be availably for computers and Sony game consoles, but Raider's Butler will be available for multiple game platforms, including the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast.
Raider's Butler places the player in the role of the staggering old butler with a nasty palsy, challenging the player to keep up Ms. Croft's estate while she is away from home on high adventure. As the butler, players will visit quaint shops in the local village, take the limosine to the service station and negotiate with greedy mechanics, and spend a great deal of time folding linens. "We're quite proud of the fact that we have over 36 different types of linens for the butler to fold," commented Mike McGarvey, COO of Eidos Interactive. "Whether it is bedsheets, curtains, cloth napkins with funky little napkin holders, or Lara's undergarments, the Butler will face different challenges with each one."
Raider's Butler will feature the same game engine being developed for Tomb Raider III, offering the greatest resolution and detail. With Raider's Butler, Eidos plans to cash in on other game platforms which were formerly off limits due to an exclusive deal with Sony. "Originally we felt good about our exclusive Tomb Raider deal with Sony, but then we figured, "Why in the world did we do that? Our product sells without Sony's help!" With Raider's Butler, we will get around the agreement, and make loads of money." says Charles Cornwall, CEO. "Although Lara Croft herself does not appear, you'll feel as if she'll show up at any moment. The player will encounter a comb with her hair, a glass with a lipstick print, her toothbrush, even her treasured teddy bear. All the while, you'll be expecting her to enter the room."
Mr. Cornwall did not comment on rumours of network play options which would allow Tomb Raider III and Raider's Butler to connect, enabling Lara Croft and the butler to interact directly.
