It seems to me that in order for Java to succeed, they would have to come up with a killer app equivalent to a word processor, spread sheet, email, or a web browser. If they do, then all those cheap PC's would become instantly obsolete and therefore, worthless.

However, IMO a killer app written in Java is a very long shot.
