Gregory (from Bob),

Capital punishment is a tough subject in secular sense as well as in the church. I personally believe many of our criminal problems today stem from the fact that punishments are too soft or non-existant at all. Sadly enough, people that commit monetary crimes nowadays are being punished more severely than murderers. The murderers are getting off with light sentences because of a myriad of excuses (ie. rough childhood, temporary insanity, they made me do it ... etc).

I personally believe that the death penalty should be instituted and executed. This is not contradictory to forgiveness. When my daughter commits a 'crime' by breaking one of the rules, she is punished. Forgiven but punished. God forgives people for their sin if they accept Jesus as their Saviour, that does not mean they are exonerated from the consequences of their sin. Example: A married man commits adultery, God will forgive Him if he repents and accepts Jesus. But his wife may still divorce him.

This is going to open up a huge debate on the thread, but why not.

Thanks for the question.

Bob
