Regarding the blimps, the problem with aircraft is the occasional occultation so if the communications technique doesn't care about momentarily data loss, there would not be a problem.

It seems to me the blimps compete with cell phones. But handset power would have to be higher with the blimps. They make the most sense over cities but that is where the fiber and copper are already installed. They don't make sense for the few customers outside the cities that need the high data rates because of their limited coverage. Here the satellites shine. Once satellites are up to service the unwired, the city dwellers will use the satellites for temporary or mobile service rather than moving their wired service around. No...I don't get it either.

When I first heard of the idea a couple of years ago I dismissed it. But then, Al Haig is "in command". Commanders don't have to make sense because they are in command.
