Well I live in the SF Bay Area and was there in 1989 for the quake. I don't want to re-hash # of calls, figures and nit-pick details, but I remember certian pockets (Oakland & the Marina in SF) being hit with service outages, but for the most part widespread phone loss only lasted a few hours (3-6) and in most of the Bay Area (90%)it was not even effected. Oakland and The Marina on it's knees maybe..... The Bay Area No way...
