I respect the right of Mr. Kathwari to claim his identity as a Kashmiri rather than an Indian. Of course, he came to this country on an Indian Passport.
I have some troubling, but illuminating points to make.
Mr. Kothari's name sounds more Indian than Muslim, more Hindu than Muslim or Arab. How the Muslims wish that they can identify themselves with the Arabs? Nothing wrong with that.
All Kashmiris come from one stock. There were all Hindus, before they became Pundits and Muslims. Pundits and Muslims have a common genetic linkage. All of them had a Hindu heritage, before the Muslim invasion. There is no genetic linkage between Kashmiris and Arabs. Muslims were Hindus, before they became converts to Islam. Why this hate between Muslims and Pundits? Christ was Jewish before he was a Christian. Would you blame Christ for his Jewishness? No.
India gave sanctuary to Kashmiris, when they started migrating from Kashmir for various reasons. This is true also of the Nehrus. It is their lighter skin and sharp facial features that the British found compelling to selectively encourage and promote them in all walks of life. Read Dr.Radhakrishnan and others for some historical facts.
It is the Hindu genes, heritage, legacy, and education that gave Mr. Kothari the entrepreneurial spirit and the freedom to think and say what he wants and the ability to rise to where he is today. My salutation to his free spirit and entrepreneurial abilities.
Would I buy furniture from Mr. Kathwari? I am not sure. What would be his attitude towards me as a customer? You may not be able to separate the man from his mind.
That Commercial I bought Ethan Allen...Was he heavy?....But he is dead.. was funny to say the least.
