I believe that DELL will announce 3-1 split (along with impressive earnings) to achieve a share price (105/3=$35 per share) more competitive with CPQ, which is trading at about $35. A recent article I read stated that DELL and CPQ were competing to become the top distributor of PC's. CPQ is rebounding from the inventory problems it had at Christmas and has changed advertising to place more emphasis on online sales. IMHO, we are are abound to witness a struggle of titans for dominance in online distribution. An apparently equivalent stock price would be an important consideration in the struggle for future investor support.
