A great analysis on marriage. I made a hard copy of it for my files.
I wonder if lawyers have a lower divorce rate than the general populace ? Having seen all the divorces closer up than the rest of us, the bickering, the battling in court over property settlements; or is it like the pickpockets working the crowds amassed for hangings in London; for crimes of pickpocketing.
I know that I have told this story before but in the midst of an argument my wife said "why don't you just leave me", without thinking I blurted out rather emphatically "the only way this marriage ends is when they carry one of us out in a pine box". The argument was over. When she saw in a fraction of a second that I was committed to her and to the marriage it seems that in that second our relationship moved up to another level.
Also. The Lord has promised to bless us in so many ways. It is really difficult to see how that is possible in divorce situations. Child support payments, alimony, double living expenses, dating expenses, are all killers financially, spiritually and emotionally.
This may blow your mind but the last two breakups in our church were caused by too much rather than not enough. One couple got a $100,000.00 settlement in a personal injury case, the man, it was his, took off with it. The other case, a friend, after building up his insurance income to well over 6 figures found that his wife became very controlling pushing him to make more and more. He left.
I am sure you have seen this side of the equation also.
