In the direct mail business, August is one of the worst times of the year to do a mailing. Many people take vacations in August. Many. One other thing I am wondering is if any upcoming blockbuster news should be held back until after labor day. Would the impact be greater then? Does it matter? (The worst day for the mail to arrive is a Monday - too many competing mail pieces. Fridays are also bad.)
