what's out there on the deep technical discussion sites and under-way at
several companies before you start taking about how great or unique the move
was.

There you go again ranting on about nothing that was said nor implied. Maybe not a unique move but smart...and i have a good idea what technology is out there and coming in the pipeline. Perhaps you should take a lesson in reading comprehension.

The fact
that Amazon.com didn't develop their own "technology" (yea, sure) or do
something in this direction sooner (and cheaper) tells me they have basic
flaws in their vision that they are now forced to try to correct.<<
