NATIONAL ENQUIRER Editor Steve Cos has stated that Kendall was not involved in earlier Clinton scandal stories. "There is zero crossover," he has said.

Note the verb tenses used: "has stated" and "has said." Note also the word "earlier." The use of these tenses indicates that the author of the article is quoting Steve Cos from previous stories and not the most recent events. If the reporter had interviewed Cos about Kendall's conflict of interest since the Lewinsky story broke, the phrasing would have been "...Kendall is not involved in Clinton scandal stories. "There is zero crossover," he said.

The devil is indeed in the details.
