Scott;

I am also dubious about the reported shortages in the 3-4 GB segment. I have not heard any direct evidence of this but do have an anecdotal bit. Recently a major DD maker here in SE Asia had to revamp their schedule after being presented with a huge order from a boxmaker. They had to cancel furloughs and re-do their schedules bringing some factory personnel back from a 4 day week to a 5 day week. The order was for drives at these capacity points. Interesting. Seems to me that if the channel inventories were still high these machinations would have been unnecessary. This needs a closer look.

<<Maxtor and IBM are punishing the high-end, and Fujitsu, Samsung, and now even SEG are dumping on the low-end>>

I have it slightly different with IBM and Fujitsu stealing share from Seagate at the high end with WDC also active to a much lesser degree. At the low end I have Maxtor realizing a big jump in share over the last year with Samsung gaining as well. I think there is a major batlle brewing in the 2.5 inch sector and expect to see the action shift to there soon.

Best,
Stitch
