If you're referring to MACD, to a certain extent, I agree with you in the fact that you perhaps miss out on a bit of a run on the upswing or downswing.

However, I have also been burned more than rewarded trying to find the top or bottom.

For an in, look to the 8-17-9., and the out at 12-25-9. Agreed, if you can anticipate the tops or bottoms than it's merely a pat on the back and no need for them anyway.

I also like to look for confirmation from other indicators such as stochs. RSI, mom.

Stocks. as of late have shown a buy earlier than MACD in the most recent stocks we've been following.ie XCIT SEEK LCOS.

And on that last one, I'd like to make a note that on the 8-17-9 chart, it does show a buy. The key is to use different formulas for buy and sell indicators. If you can't be willing to flex there,might as well not even play the game.

I'm still working on different combinations as they relate to particular stocks, but the above seem good for what I'm working with.
