Yes, you are right on both counts. I've met many of the same, some even wearing ministerial uniforms. I suppose that's why God doesn't judge people by the outward appearance but by what's in their heart and what they have done with His Son.
The other verse you are quoting is Matthew 22:39 ..." Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself " and it works for me too.
