Fred, re;<PC Mag tests 37 sub-0's> A year ago would you have guessed there would be 37 models of sub-0's? Even more interesting, it's one model each from 37 different manufacturers. Today's Best Buy flyer lists a CTX Celeron/300 and a Compaq K6/300 for $999. These are both fully loaded and include monitor, printer and flat bed scanner. (The back-to-school crowd should love these). These are significantly better than many of the $2000 systems selling a year ago. More power, more RAM, bigger hard disks, faster CD-ROM's, more features, etc. Care to predict what a sub-0 will look like a year from now? This is great for the consumer, but what does it mean for the industry? And when the next "killer app" finally comes, (which I don't think is voice recognition), will cheap PC's have the power to run it? Seem's to me technology is outpacing the need's of most users, and at great prices. |
