To add a bit of humanity to the situation, I'm posting a letter from a Syquest employee who monitors a mailing list I subscribe to. The mailing list concerns the Roland VS-series of hard disc audio recorders.
Nice people like Michael here are losing their jobs.
To All VS users:
I would like to thank Rocky Reid, Shawn Fitzgerald and Rick Knepper for your recent posts re: my presense here on the list. I am not certain of my position with SyQuest at this point, but will hope to have that answer for you this week. Let me say that I appreciate all the support and kind posts that you have sent and hope to continue on. There have been mixed feelings about SyJet and the VS and I hope that those of you who contacted me, were happy with the results of any issues that I was able to resolve.
On another note, at the time which I was informed of the lay-offs, I had begun testing the VS-1680 and the Quest 4.7 gig drive which was scheduled to be shipping in October. I have been working with this product since last november, and can tell you that this drive was the most reliable, durable and fastest drive SyQuest has ever made to date!!!!!!! As a result of the downsizing of the company, the drive was cancelled for production. I cannot tell you what a major disappointment this has been for me, especially when the test results have been 100% successful with the 1680. The test guidelines were once again provided by Roland and the Quest performed magnificently...... I am asking if all those who read the posts here would be kind enough to share their thoughts and interest on this product. The drive was going
to be priced at $699.00 (int.) and $199.00 for the media.Glyph Technologies was targeted to be the primary distributor of Quest, in a desktop enclosure priced at approx. $799.00. Please send all your responses to me directly. Should my position be terminated, I'd like to thank you for letting me be of service, and hope that my presense here has been a benefit to all of you.
