Actually RS did not say that LGND would be profitable next year. When they initiated coverage and made 10 year's worth (from 1996 to 2006) of projections, they saw the year 2000 as the first profitable one ($0.10). Profitability for next year has been projected by Bear Stearns, Legg Mason, and H&Q ($0.09, $0.10, $0.11 respectively).

Last week I talked to SA about the likelihood of profitability next year. She said that as long as ONTAK and topical Panretin approvals went smoothly (and they both look very good at this time), then a profit in 1999 would require the expected milestone payments, or product revenue from Targretin. If both happened (and I think that it is very possible that both will happen), then LGND would exceed projections.
