I recommend the Sony Notebooks VERY HIGHLY! Excellent quality - and PERFORMANCE in their new machines. They offer 266 MHz Pentium II's and maybe soon a 300 MHz version.

I would also look very closely at DELL - they make excellent products and appear very price aggressive.

There are many other good brands but Sony and Dell are up at the top.

I tend to ignore IBM and Toshiba because of their extensive use of that silly eraser/pointer - but that is my own personal preference. I prefer a track-pad pointing device (or a Wacom Tablet which I use on my Desktop).
