As far as overall quality/performance/reliability I have no experience with Sony and haven't read too much. I do know that you are very happy with yours <ggg>. I also agree with you regarding Dell. In fact, had it not been for touch pad it would have been a consideration. Another feature I really wanted and limited my selection was an internal ZIP drive. Internal Toshiba and IBM ZIP's were two of the first. I use ZIP disks routinely to transfer data between my notebook and desktops. In fact, this is my biggest application for ZIP drives. Unfortunately, many quality notebooks, like Dell, still do not have this option. As someone else pointed out, I think a 3 year warranty is critical due to the fact that notebooks inherently are less reliable/durable than their desktop counterparts. FF
