Margaret,

I get invitations all of the time for free lunches at fancy clubs from brokers, so I don't think that things are as rosy posey for them as it might appear.

I don't get the club invites. I get calls with 'hot' tips. When I tell them that I do not make decisions on equities that I have not investigated, they try to talk me into the purchase. Fat chance!

If they call at work, I will go out to the 'net and start a search. I'll give them the negative things I see and ask why I should buy this stock that has moved below it's 50 day moving average, doesn't pay a dividend, has a high P/E, etc. It usually shuts them up.

You're right, the knowledgeable folks are making it tough for these brokers to make a buck. We hold when they say sell, we buy when they say the world is collapsing and we hold or sell when they say buy. They just don't get it.

Regards,
dmg
