Actually, the way I read the different colors scenario is
that Don did have contact with someone in Apple indicating
they were likely to do this, but also that Apple does not
want the info made public in any way, since any publicity
about the possibility for future different colors could take
away from the impact of the first introduction and could
have a negative impact on sales prior to the time that such
could be introduced. If there will be different colors,
it will take some time and Apple will want to break the news
with some pizzaz. But why invest in or advertise different
colors before you know you even have a success with the initial
introduction? And you don't want the different colors challenge
to plague your peripheral vendors from the start!
