I come up with my conclusions the same why I assume you come up with yours -- I research facts and think about them. Actually, I try to research them myself instead of challenging other people to research them for me.

IDX as the leader in bio-ID . . . see previous post re: revenues and yesterday's post on pilots and Oracle alliance. I am not as impressed as you are with on/off switch applications. They remind me of the early pitch to buy computers because they are a great way to store recipes. There's no big value-added.

Veridicom and Who?Vision are silicon sensor hardware suppliers whose products are indifferent to whether algorithms are minutiae or pattern-recognition based (although I'm assuming here the chips are sensitive enough to support all algorithms). So that question is irrelevant.

The Sony Puppy and U are U are potential competitors in certain applications.

Identicator has a possible market for low-level applications. We'll see if there's a consumer demand for these biometric locks on Compaq machines. IDX has decided not to play here, and I agree there is probably not much profit available if you are selling a component commodity like IDT appears to be doing. But it sounds sexy, and that's the sizzle I think they'll be selling in an IPO attempt.

Securing access to your desktop machine is the equivalent of turning it on via a biometric challenge. You could imagine the same thing with a car ignition lock, for instance. But if you want to get more ambitious in the application, like verifying parties to a transaction, you certainly need a lot more equipment and infrastructure than Compaq/IDT is offering. If you think the real money in this field is going to be made by biometric computer locks at the desktop, I'd say invest in Compaq/IDT right now. If you think the market will want more than a recipe-storing equivalent, watch IDX's pilots.

As to the length of the pilots, Fowler on a conference call a little while back pretty much admitted the Oracle alliance was not doing much for its first year or so. They had a false start.

What research are you contributing to this board?
