Are we certain the Storebaelt Bridge or the previously mentioned Japanese bridges are suspension bridges? The previous record holder, the Verrazano-Narrows, only had a span of 4,260 ft. between the supports. I'm not an engineer either, but a single span suspension bridge of 2.4 or 4.2 miles would need towers of freakish height and strength. Did "Popular Mechanics" have a picture of the bridge? Did it look like the Golden Gate?

Thanks for any info. I just realized what a complete geek I am! :-)
