Bob,

The 2 bridges in question are indeed suspension bridges.
There is a picture of the Japanese bridge in the magazine
but not the bridge in Denmark. This is what the magazine
says:

On April 5, the 2.4 mile span (of the Japanese bridge)
became the world's longest suspension bridge. Then, on
June 14 it set a less proud record for so quickly losing
that title. It was beaten by Denmark's Storebaelt Bridge,
a 4.2 mile span that connects the country's biggest island, Sjaelland, to the mainland.

There might be more than just 2 towers on these bridges.
As far as the record goes I'm not sure if they measure
between the towers or the overall length of the bridge.
I guess if you had more than just 2 towers like the
Golden Gate has, the bridge itself could be of any length.
But the distance between each tower would have to be
limited by the height of the towers.
