Intelect Announces Full Motion Color Video Conferencing At 128-kbps for Internet Affordable Full Motion, Full Color Video Conferencing Over the Internet To be Available for xDSL, Cable Modem, and ISDN Users RICHARDSON, Texas, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelect Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ICOM - news), a leading provider of products and services for the seamless integration of voice, data and video technologies, today announced a technological breakthrough in its leading-edge video communications product, LANscape(TM). For the first time, full motion, full color video conferencing will be possible at 128-kbps. This opens the market for LANscape to include users with xDSL, cable modem or ISDN Internet connectivity. Additionally, in LAN/WAN enterprise networks where bandwidth is less constrained, LANscape 128-kbps operability will offer conferencing of an increased number of sites simultaneously without the need of expensive multi-conferencing units (MCU). The enhancement for LANscape is expected to be launched in October at TeleCon XVIII, with commercial availability during the fourth quarter of 1998.
''This is the first time full motion, full color video communications will be possible at transmission rates this low,'' said Peter Ianace, president and chief executive officer of Intelect Network Technologies. ''On one side, consumer demand for Internet access has created a race to provide higher bandwidth to households, while on the other side, advancements in our LANscape technology are allowing full motion, full color communications at lower and lower speeds. With 128-kbps capability, this is the first time these two forces will overlap. While the primary applications of LANscape will still be enterprise environments with higher bandwidth, this new capability will dramatically extend the operating range of the product.''
''Last week, Intelect announced that LANscape would be available as a network-ready option preinstalled on Gateway(TM) (NYSE: GTW - news) personal computers. Gateway Custom Integration Services division will manufacture their Destination(R) and E-Series product lines enabled with LANscape. This ''plug-and-play'' option is in strong demand by our distribution network, which has been recently strengthened by Hughes Network Systems and FORE Systems,'' Ianace added.
Using the Internet standard (IP) as its transmission protocol, LANscape is the only video communications product to offer full-motion video over existing LAN/WAN networks and provide multiple user videoconferencing without an expensive Multi-Conferencing Unit (MCU). LANscape also supports IP multicasting for simultaneous distribution of video communications, either real-time or pre-recorded, across entire networks. These features, along with LANscape's ability to provide VCR record and playback controls, make it a complete multimedia video network solution.
