news Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. Names Jack Harrod as Chief Operating Officer
PR Newswire - August 10, 1998 10:16
NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MHTX) announced today that Jack Harrod, a former executive vice president at Texas Instruments, has joined the company as its chief operating officer. Harrod directed the Digital Imaging efforts at Texas Instruments that began as an entrepreneurial venture and led it through development and market introduction of a major line of products based on Digital Light Processing (DLP(TM)) technology and the Digital Micromirror Device (DMD(TM)). Technologies developed under Harrod's direction won numerous prizes for innovation including the prestigious "Eduard Rhein Technology Award", PC Magazine's "New Peripheral Product of the Year" award, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences "Emmy".
During his 32 years at Texas Instruments, Harrod held a variety of leadership positions including executive vice president in the defense sector where he was responsible for a business entity that included products such as airborne radars, electro-optic systems, electronic warfare equipment, radar seekers for missiles, and systems for antisubmarine warfare.
Describing his plans for directing technology commercialization at Manhattan Scientifics, Harrod stated, "The Manhattan Scientifics technical teams have done an excellent development job to date. Robert Hockaday and the energy sector have produced very promising results in the recent micro fuel cell development. The test results from the new Holo-Store holographic media development unit are equally encouraging. Our excellent relationship with the Los Alamos National Laboratory and our Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA) with them are a key factor in these advances. The bottom line is that the opportunities facing us are very exciting, but we also face the challenge to rapidly develop the technologies to commercialization and to create quality, profitable products. A significant additional role for me as chief operating officer will be to identify potential strategic partners and to develop alliances that help us manufacture and market our products."
Harrod's acceptance of the chief operating officer duties closely follows a shift in the major controlling financial interest of Manhattan Scientifics from Projectavision (Nasdaq: PJTV) to an institutional money management fund. Marvin Maslow, chief executive officer of Manhattan Scientifics, described how he views the addition of Jack Harrod as the new COO: "Jack Harrod is a mover that makes big things happen quickly. He has cultivated a global network of business contacts which will interface perfectly with our Business Plan -- to secure a strategic corporate relationship with one or more global companies in the energy and data storage fields. Jack is an entrepreneur at heart who has built businesses from start up concepts to $1 billion sales potential while at Texas Instruments. His vision and leadership will position us to rapidly advance our technologies to commercialization."
Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. with research headquarters in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and business offices in New York City , is a technology incubator currently developing patented technologies that address two critical issues in the advancement of consumer and commercial electronics: portable power and holographic media for data storage.
