Thread, Here's a post I've been meaning to do for awhile. It's from ADC Telecommunications, Inc.(symbol: ADCT) 1997 annual report. It appears ADCT is a "last mile" dream company. I'm interested in hearing anyone's opinion of this company. They are definitely positioning themselves as a "pure-play" in the last mile game. But I'm not sure if it's all fluff or for real? I get this feeling they are a, "jack of all trades, master of nothing," type company. But I certainly could be wrong. Does anyone have any opinions about their products and/or reputation? Thanks, MikeM(From Florida) ___________________________________
"For all of its power, the global network is a hodgepodge of media-copper twisted pair, coaxial, and fiber optic cable and a variety of wireless systems over which messages cruise at light speed only to slow to a pedestrian pace scant yards from their destination, caught in the electronic molasses of local loop bottlenecks.
Ironical, the existing networks were originally designed to be just so, optimized to support single application such as efficient two-way telephone conversations or one-way transmission of Hollywood hits to cable TV subscribers. But now comes the digital information age and the ever-increasing need to be connected, to get online, to move volumes of integrated digital information at high speed from a variety of digital devices, all of which share a common need-- access to high-speed communications networks.
The applications are already here, off the shelf, on the desktop, in your pocket. However, the immense, uncharted potential of the information age is bottled up in the local loop.
Simply stated, this problem creates great opportunity for ADC. ADC's goals is to equip communications service providers with the technology based solution they need to clear local loop bottlenecks and provide customer with ready access to high-speed networks." |
