Scumbria,

The Soviet Union had a very efficient, streamlined mechanism for prosecuting criminals. No lawyers to interfere with the distribution of justice. The streets of Moscow were always much safer than the streets of New York.

I am the last one to defend Soviet Union, but you have to give credit where credit is due. They managed to keep the street crime under control.

But, I don't believe you have to turn to a totalitarian system to get the street crime under control.

The streets of New York are becoming safe again. They used to be very safe before 60s, the drugs, the liberal justice system.

Under the totalitarian system it was hard for criminals to get away with crime. But it is not a sign of a openness of a society to have a justice system where criminals get away with crime easily.
