"Antares' cash outlay to acquire this investment in 1996 was $1,800,000."

One would hope that that statement is the full, complete, and honest truth.
If it is not, if for instance there was some outlay beyond the cash, if there was any other consideration involved, or if perhaps different currencies are being used, then the statement could be construed to be misleading.

"Since the waste management company is a privately held company, there is no certainty at this time to pin-point what the real value is."

Have to agree with that completely. Absent public trading with willing buyers and willing sellers to find the market value, any numbers placed on this transaction by the two companies involved are meaningless to the investor, imho.

It would be interesting to hear the names of the principals involved, and their histories, especially any previous dealings they may have had with each other.
