Argentine stocks plunge on yen, China fears

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 10 (Reuters) - The Argentine stock exchange continued its free-fall in late trading Monday
after a 9.49 percent plunge last week driven by fears of another Asian currency meltdown.

''All of this is a result of the Asia crisis. What we're seeing is that prices are getting worse and the market is not
finding its floor. We have to be very careful,'' trader Alejandro Silveyra at Capital Markets Argentina said.

The MerVal (^MERV - news) index of most traded shares was off 3.58 percent at 513.81 points, a 19.12 point slide about ten minutes before the
market's close.
