Wouldn't it be crocodiles? Better yet, how about piranha - as in nibbling away at their profit margins, coming at them from every direction and eventually devouring them. Seems much more fitting than creatures that lash out at their prey, grabbing them and pulling them under water to drown them and then rip them to a few bite sized chunks to be swallowed whole. Both get the job done, but the shop bots coming at them in massive assaults, eating away at them in many, many small bites seem more like piranha while cutthroat competition from larger, more powerful players taking large, violent bites seems to fit the crocodile analogy.

And, besides those obvious aquatic threats, some of the more stagnant pools are infested with leaches and other parasites that suck out up to 15% of every order.

Nevertheles, though it is a big river, whenever their boat looks less than seaworthy, they just buy another boat and shout "Yahooo! This one will get us across!" Of course, with each swamped and broken down boat they abandon, they are farther from the opposite shore than when they bought it, but they keep telling the crew and those who financed all those boats "there are mountains of gold across this treacherous river and we will take you to it, though we can not tell you how for that is our secret and if we tell you, then others with swifter vessels will try to claim our gold - trust us for we have a plan."
