Well, Merlo, I guess Goldman's going to make out like a bandit if Compaq is below $30 on options expiration Friday in August.

Irrespective of my lack of desire to own Compaq, even I know that it ought to be trading well above $30 that day. That would lead us to the conclusion that Goldman wants to be called, and that the strike price plus the premium they collected for selling the calls, exceeds their near-to-mid term price appreciation potential for CPQ (at the very least).

If they want to own Compaq for the long term, they are certainly sure that it is going down (or remaining very flat for a while) before it goes up.

I don't see how an argument can be made to demonstrate otherwise.
