O.K. I've been trying to understand this for awhile.I watch freeReal time.com most of the time, sometimes fidelity real time quotes. How do I know for sure whether the large block traded has been on the bid side or ask. There are those little numbers in (5) but I've been told that they don't mean much..today nscp was really wild though, shifting. But I couldn't really see any correlation . I would think that it would be best to move along WITH the MMs instead of cursing them. Do you have level 2 or something that tells you which is which? I do the whole thing by "feel"..at a certain point everything starts to move down faster than it went up, & I've never lost money , but have seen most of my paper profits vanish because I wasn't quick enough. Tomorrow I'll be watching netscape & dclk and tsqd because of new IPO DRIV, and hoping that NETG will follow the internet uptrend, because i didn't get out fast enough & am way down. I'm reading your post over again..so that is the explanation of the variation in spread betwee the two. Sorry for the long post..but I think this is important stuff you just said, and I don't quite get it yet. Does this just happen with NASDAQ & BB stocks? I would never short any of these guys.Actually I had one bad experience with shorting and never did it again..but would like to try someday. Thanks.
