Sonny,

Isis is very focused on antisense technology. They should be at this stage since they don't have the resources to work on too many fronts. When they get to Amgen's stage of development, which is about 5 years from now, they can afford to invest in other promising technologies. I think they are very interested in apoptosis. It is interesting to note the guy who first described apoptosis in the 70s- Andrew Wyllie- was my supervisor, but everybody thought he was in the looney fringe for the longest time until apoptosis became hot in the mid eighties. I'm quite sure there is great potential in blocking certain genes such as p53, Bcl2, Bclx, c-myc etc. in the treatment of cancer. The trick is to target only those cells that express these genes inappropriately or in abnormally large amounts.
