graystone, of course the entry on the balance sheet must be equal to the amount they paid. hence the term, BALANCE SHEET. its a given moment in time reflecting a financial picture. the value of the land, according to accounting standards is the price of the stock times the restricted shares issued at that moment. no determination of the real value can be made by this entry. down the road adjustments can be made to historical costs based on depletion, roi, etc etc.
