A/V DailyNews Announces 1st Annual Streaming Audio Video Awards. The SAV Awards.
Business Wire - August 11, 1998 10:27
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 1998--A/V DailyNews, the Internet's first audio video portal specializing in delivering business, sports, health and entertainment news in streaming audio and video, announced the first annual SAV(TM) Awards.

The SAV Awards will select the Top 15 sites on the Internet which make compelling use of RealAudio or RealVideo. Streaming audio and video is the technology pioneered by RealNetworks (NASDAQ: RNWK) which enables users to view music video clips or listen to interviews in audio, or even watch full-length movies instantaneously over the Internet.

Industry experts believe that streaming media will be a multi-billion dollar industry in the very near future. Due to certain inherent infrastructure characteristics, Internet programming companies are able to profitably create entertainment that from the outset, can be designed to reach an audience which may only number in the thousands.

By contrast, television programming often needs to reach an audience ranging into the millions - and even then could still be an unprofitable venture, as witnessed by the recent cancellation of the "Magic Hour" starring Magic Johnson which averaged 2 million viewers.

The winners will be chosen by 15 panelists from the entertainment and new media industries and will be chosen based upon criteria personal to each panelist. The winners will be announced in conjunction with the launch of the A/V DailyNews website on September 9th, 1998.

Donna Murdoch, Vice President of A/V DailyNews stated, "We decided not to categorize the awards inasmuch as five of the best sites could easily come from the Music industry and we truly wanted this to be the cream of the crop. With over 300,000 sites offering streaming media, we wanted to give everyone an equal chance, regardless of whether it's from a one-man Internet video cam operator in Times Square or from the artist formerly known as Prince."

She added, "We will proudly announce the winners to RealNetworks 28 million registered users with RealPlayer at the A/V DailyNews website the day following its launch."

To enter your web site for consideration please send an e-mail briefly describing the site and its URL to Lisa Gurcsik at A/V DailyNews (SAVAwards@avnewswire.com). Submissions will be accepted until August 31st, 1998.
