RMS Titanic - Titanic Expedition Team Recovers 20 Ton 'Big Piece' From 2
1/2 Miles Below The Ocean's Surface
NEW YORK, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- RMS Titanic, Inc. (OTC-Bulletin Board: SOST - news), announced today that the 1998 Titanic Expedition team has
recovered the ''Big Piece,'' a discrete 23-foot by 14-foot section of the outer hull of the Titanic. The piece is now aboard the Abeille, where a conservation expert
is overseeing efforts to ensure that it is properly preserved.
The Big Piece was approximately 10 miles from the rest of Titanic's wreck site. During RMS Titanic's Inc.'s 1996 expedition, the Big Piece was successfully raised
to within 200 feet of the ocean's surface, but it was lost during stormy weather. The Big Piece will be placed on public exhibition with RMS Titanic, Inc.'s collection
of Titanic artifacts, which currently is displayed in Boston, Massachusetts at the World Trade Center.

unfolded and the first footage of the hull recovery can been seen on Wednesday, August 12 on Dateline's RAISING THE TITANIC special at 10pm (ET).

This newest, month-long expedition includes an elite team of experts who are exploring the site of the submerged ship to examine the scientific mysteries behind its
famous sinking. The team of top-notch ocean specialists, naval architects, archaeologists, microbial biologists, engineers, authors and historians, are at the historic
shipwreck to learn more about how the ship sank and how quickly it is disintegrating on the ocean floor.
Formed in 1987, RMS Titanic, Inc. was granted salvor-in-possession rights to the wreck of the Titanic by a United States Federal Court order in 1994,
reconfirmed again in 1996. The court award includes the exclusive rights to own all of the objects recovered from the Titanic wreck site and the exclusive rights to
photograph Titanic. In a June 1998 court ruling prohibiting a proposed sightseer expedition to the Titanic, United States District Court Judge J. Calvitt Clarke, Jr.
commended the Company for ''maximizing the wreck's historical value and returning the wreck's artifacts to society for the general use and education of all
mankind.'' During the years 1996, 1994, 1993 and 1987, research and recovery expeditions conducted by RMS Titanic, Inc. have recovered approximately 5,000
artifacts from the Titanic wreck site.
