Dear Alex:
I bet you could have real fun if you gave an openminded re-reading to the Steve post to which you are 'responding.'
I am not being snide here, only suggesting that a tasting of broader than two-valued conceptualization could have a certain intrigue to it.
The entire substance of your 'response' is based on either/or, black/white orientation. I will be specific: The Extrahuman end of your balance beam necessitates the acceptance of a Conscious, Deliberate, Aware, Principled, Moral, Power-Exerting Intellectual Entity. The Human end of the beam rejects such acceptance. With one, there is mysticism, religions, ordered systems of Faith. With the other, there is no Faith. The two do not cover the ballpark.
Can you entertain this as a reasonable statement?
If you can, how do you come up with the specifics (Conscious, etc.) of the Extrahuman selection? Is it the Desire to Avoid Absence of Total Knowledge? The Need for Neatness, Completion? The Inability to even remotely Experience Awe?
I am seriously interested in your reaction to these questions.
Thanks, George
