There's a study known as 'Lower Criticism' that examines all known Bilbical texts. The variations are smaller than you would imagine, surely due to the many error-checks that copyists used. The number of words in each line was known, the number of letters that should appear in each line was known, some of the texts have anagrams that show up in Greek or Hebrew, some have an "x" that appears in the middle of the work if its copied properly. One interesting opportunity came with the discovery of an Isaiah text in the Dead Sea Scrolls. It's variation from Siniaticus, or one of the other excellent manuscripts, was on the order of less than 5%, and this is on a span of over 1,000 years between the two.

I suppose a difference in the miracles of the penny stocks is that no one believes them for very long, especially if Janice Shell focuses on them. But they do seem to be a religious experience for some people.
