Re:How is the availability of AMD and Cyrix chips in Europe?
Well..I was surprised to hear that AMD chips are/were not as randomly available as it seems. Prices are higher than they should be, but non the less AMD sells quite well. Certain times there is a shortage on medium end k6-2 (300's), and less, but still there, are the shortages on the 333's and 266 MHz versions. Still find it strange, because it seems that AMD 1) doesnt realize the potential of the market 2)has yielding problems (noop, a 300 MHz k6 can be clocked to 350 with no problems, and does a POST at 416, with normal cooler ! )... However it leaves me in the dark.
One little thing ...the motherboards.
Vendors are looking for a cheap (150 guilders , $75 - ) & good mobo , and average selling price of 9 guilder higher > 4.5 dollars margin....but there are almost none available in europe.
Motherboars used in Europe : Elite with SIS chipset, really shitty because to let the 100 MHz busclock run stabile it increases the voltage to the cpu...(arggg) so the K6-2 runs blood-hot on that one.
Furthermore also ATC has a mobo with SIS chipset, but seemed to have problems with the performance . (as always with ATC).
I recommended the upcoming ASUS mobo, and the FIC with MPV3 chipset to the person who is incharge for sales at ECL (largest dutch importer & resaler in hardware), and he wanted to know the exact pricing of those motherboards...unfortunatly I only know the prices INCLUDING margin.
Anybode any info on the ASUS mobo ? With ali5 chipset... (the price-)
