It's time I think to get tough with the japanese. one idea is to appoint a special trade representative for dealing with japan exclusively and the first order of business is to impose(by executive order) the same restrictions on japanese imports that japan imposes upon imports to japan, you know, like having each vehicle imported to the u.s. by japan be physically expected by a person (and hiring only two people to do all the inspections); have each person who buys a japanese (imported) vehicle automatically audited by the IRS, etc...These are just some of the tactics which the japanese use to limit imports.
There are a few other things we could do in terms of our military posture, also. If they expect us to protect their asses from the threat of the chinese they ought to be willing to pay us a good price...we've been "protecting" their country since the end of ww2 at virtually NO COST to them.
this sorry ass administration of ours doesn't have a clue as to what leverage with have.
